Sullivan County DA's office orders investigation of cancelled GOP event

The Sullivan County District Attorney's Office is now investigating a cancelled GOP presidential forum in Kingsport.

DA Barry Staubus says the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the matter at his request.

Back in October, the political action group in charge of organizing the forum at Meadowview Convention center in Kingsport cancelled the event.

Conservatives on the move co-founder Fabian Story told?11 Connects?at the time that cooperation issues were to blame.

Local Tea Party activist Kay White--who was helping organize the event--says she sold roughly 380 tickets along with sponsorships?to the forum.?

White estimates those sales along with online sales made by Story totaled between $35,000 and $38,000.

"...I have a copy of every check with a copy of the deposit slip that those checks made up...people just need to know that I kept those records and that has been very helpful to the TBI,"?said White.

Story says the money was used for event and operating expenses.?

Staubus declined to comment further on the reason for the investigation.
