NFL fantasy football: Dwayne Bowe carries good value

He?s back!: Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has signed his franchise tender and will rejoin the team. Projected as a borderline No. 2 or 3 wideout in fantasy football drafts, owners can now select the LSU product with confidence. Due to injuries at the quarterback position in 2011, Bowe failed to match his 15 touchdown total from 2010, ending with only five on the year. However, he posted his second-straight 1,100+ yard season and could be looking at improved numbers this season. Aided by the two-headed rushing attack of Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis, defenses will be forced to respect the run, which should help take the focus off Bowe. With a current ADP of 53.33, fantasy owners will be able to select the veteran in the sixth round of drafts, making him worth the investment.

No doubt: No Doubt isn?t just the name of the band that will perform live at Rockefeller Plaza before the first game of the season between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, it?s also what San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews believes is the probability he will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Speaking with XTRA Sports 1560 radio in San Diego, Mathews stated he has ?no doubt? he will be in uniform for the September 10th game against the Oakland Raiders. Fantasy football owners might want to take his words with a grain of salt. Fantasy expert Jason Smith spoke with Dr. Neil Ghodadra on NFL Fantasy LIVE Thursday, and the doctor?s statements weren?t as rosy when he stated ?It takes the average NFL player 8.8 weeks to recover from a clavicle injury.? For a back projected to finish among the top ten in fantasy leagues, Mathews will be taken in the early rounds. Make sure Ronnie Brown is selected as his handcuff, should things not go as quickly as Mathews projects.

Positive regression: According to the Tampa Bay Times, Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams is ready to revert to rookie form. After a disappointing 2011 season, the third-year wideout hopes to improve on his rookie numbers, which saw him rack up 11 touchdowns with 964 receiving yards. The addition of Vincent Jackson during the offseason seems to be aiding in his progression, the veteran stating Williams has ?been a sponge,? and has ?become such a better receiver in the last few months.? With Jackson likely to draw the bulk of defensive attention, the Syracuse product could see plenty of single-coverage. Williams can be selected in the later-rounds of fantasy football drafts, as reflected in the NFL fantasy experts league mock auction draft, where he was taken in the 15th round. Consider him a reserve wideout with potential to be one of the better bye-week options.
