Taken 2- Movie Review- Burrp! | Entertainment | Know your city

Taken 2 is dull, uninspired:

At one point in ?Taken 2?, Liam Neeson tells his ex-wife that the last thing you?d do to a dog with a bone is take it away from him. His reflection serves as ironic commentary on the makers, who discovered a cash cow and a cult following with ?Taken? in 2008 and are now desperate to not let go. But the sequel is a tired follow-up and fatigue is writ large on even the lead actor?s face. The writing?s on the wall ? it?s time to put this dog down.

What?s it about?

Bryan Mills (Neeson) and his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) are back home safe but families of the goons that Mills killed in the first movie, are hungry for revenge. They attempt to kidnap him, ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) and daughter while the three are on holiday in Istanbul and there begins a cat-and-mouse affair with an ending you could spot continents away.

In the first movie, it was all about Neeson being a true-blue action star with superhuman instinct. In the sequel, the makers try to ?humanize? Neeson?s character by throwing in a boy?s only barbeque and a love angle with his ex-wife, and the sentimental nonsense brings down the pace. The fight sequences are also hardly impressive. You?d think they?d pull out all the stops, especially in the climatic scenes, but what you instead get is a finale that even the Senior Citizen?s Fight Club would turn their noses up at.

What to do?
There?s little about this sequel that takes you by pleasant surprise. Give it a miss.
